11.00am - 3.00pm Holy Island Crossman Hall Holy Island TD15 2ST
The landscape we are all familiar with owes much of its current shape to the action of vast sheets of ice that crawled over the landscape over the last 2.5 million years. When the last of these huge ice sheets slowly melted way, retreating to its current home up in the Arctic Ocean, it left behind a triple legacy of eroded rock, a dump of vast amounts of glacial waste and lots of water.
Why did the ice come and go?
How often did it make an appearance?
What effect did it have on the oceans?
When might it happen again?
The scale of the processes involved is simply enormous and it is these that we will explore during this event as well as what we can learn from these massive global climate events.
This is a free event for all, including families. There will be activities, explanation and discussion to give an entertaining insight into the enormous impact of the Ice Ages on the landscape of Lindisfarne and the surrounding arc of land.
